CLIMATE: Area with a special microclimate, which is optimal for viticulture. The low altitude means that the harvest of the grape is usually a few months earlier than in Castilla, with the minimum in winter of 38º F and maximum in summer of 75ºF.
The average annual rainfall is more than 700 mm, and the vines receive about 2,200 hours of sunlight.

Fruity, profiled, very representative of the Mencía Bercianos and also very commercial. The ‘Século Roble’ opens a new path in the range of red wines from the winery Vinos de Arganza and is very much in line with the new demands of the consumer.
It is a very fruity red wine within the range of the mencía of the winery. The three months of being in the barrel maintain that fruity essence that is the character and hallmark of the Berciano wine, but the oak outlines the edges and makes it extraordinarily commercial because it is very acceptable for most consumers. It is fleshy, soft on the palate and has a very nice palate ». Víctor Robla Carreiras, which in a few years has turned Vinos de Arganza into the private winery of the appellation of origin with the highest volume of sales of the Berciano wine, thus defines the red that heads a new line of wines in the wide range of the company based in Toral de los Vados.
The Século Roble, with only three months of aging, is in the line of the most modern bierzos and responds faithfully to a new idea of reds that shun excess maderization to preserve the qualities that the grape treasures. “It’s about not killing the fruit,” Robla sums up with extreme precision. And season the statement with a definitive equation: “A lot of fruit, little wood, less cost. It is a simple and commercially very interesting elaboration for the winery in particular, but in general also for the Bierzo wines ».
Robla Carreiras also recalls that the growth of wine consumption, for reasons that have to do with consumer preferences but also for economic issues and the adjustment of spending, occurs precisely between young reds and those traditionally mentioned as young oak or reds with barrel
The high production of the Século Roble and in general the sustained increase in sales forces the winery to increase the number of grape growers that supply the grapes, also expanding the purchase area, but identifying those areas to maintain the identity and homogeneity of the product and systematizing the rules of work in the vineyard, especially in relation to the minimization of treatments and the requirement of green pruning. In parallel, the winery has been acquiring small plots to expand its viticultural heritage and guarantee the highest quality harvest for elaborations of the highest expression.
